Becoming Youtube's new installment

Does anyone watch the Becoming Youtube series? I recently just watched the newest installment and was blown away by Ben Cook's guts. I thought it was really interesting how he very directly and aggressively confronts the viewers (he also says fangirls I believe?) and the content creators. I agreed with a few points, mainly that the gap between viewers and "Youtubers" has grown and what once a community of people is slowly becoming more about money. Of course, I think being able to call Youtube your job is an amazing opportunity. However, I personally don't click that magical button to subscribe to a business or a company or an advertisement. I'm interested in the individual who is talking about their life, or telling a story, or making a comedy sketch or a tutorial etc. I like how youtube can be a give and take, a posting videos and receiving feedback in the form of comments and video responses. Sadly, I feel as though that give and take is getting smaller, or maybe that relationship is being overshadowed by the "celebrities" on youtube?
Any thoughts? I'd love to hear what you think.
 
with anough work and effort any one can make it big on youtube. I find the failure rate is so high on youtube because people expect since there great from the start there going to make millions. Instantly.. they don't under stand it take time 6 months is just getting your content figured and from there you continually find new ways to grow, so will hurt your channel and others and other's will push it to the next level! the hardest part is maintaining that level and jumping one level higher well maintaining that level expected and yet still exceeding that level of expectations, it take's money and time and a great personalty and to become big on youtube you need to see the big youtubers as friends not enemies. Dont get caught in there shadow blase your own trail take some info and pointers from every youtube and learn to grow from your own ideas as well as incorporating things that are known to help. Researching, developing a good product that suits your market with quality customer service and advertising is what it takes to make or brake your, product, your channel. The way you advertise and act with your fan base will make or brake you.

I hate when people say all the big youtubers steal your views... there's always viewers looking for bigger and better content! if your channel is doinng something that gets beaten to death on a daily basis like gaming its going to be alot harder market to get into then something thats being done by alot less people and something that you no you can be accede at. In the end i see youtube like on big lottery! it's free to play why not throw a few vids up and see it takes off. the more you like what your doing the better the chance's you audience will like what your doing

You make a great point! I think you have a really positive outlook on the entire thing, and I completely agree when you said "viewers are looking for bigger and better content" because as a viewer, I'm always looking for a new youtuber with good content. However, I do believe that sometimes people get lucky, those with mediocre content do get the subscriber count but that's not what is important. Do you think the community of youtube has changed with the growth of the platform and external justification from traditional media like youtubers being featured on newspapers and tv?
 
I found it really hit deep, when Ben did his whole speech, I agreed so much, and I think the aggression was very fitting as it is something that needed to be said, I can think of people I know right now who would sooner send their favourite YouTuber some sort of present than they would their own families, and have never watched the news or thought twice about charity. So many content creators do fall into that trap, and forget how lucky they seriously are even having the chance to do this for a living. I had so much respect for him after that.

yes and no. Yes advertising has changed and how youtube at a whole has change but mainly the tv, newspaper, and radio is changing! with the internet being such a vast base of knowledge and world news music, video streaming and "time killer" its killing the broadcast industry and anything that people do watch they just watch on the internet or download it. there are allot of country's trying to control the internet and politics but with websites like wikipedia and youtube and all these other site's it's hard to keep anything a secret. Perfect example when it first happend the government since they new this meteor was comming tried to say it was a military aircraft but in truth but with every one posting footage on youtube from accident cams and other sources the government fixed there act greatly! youtube is evolving and the world is adapting to it im loooking forward to see if a site will ever out do youtube like facebook did to myspace. when was the last time you heard about yahoo or ask jeeves? google as a hole is dominating alot of markets and trying to say on top! wheather you have a apple or a android there is a google driven application on it. So in short lol youtube and google are what today's revolution and if the media doesn't publish stuff on what we as viewers view daily they will fail and its adapt or die time
