Be Honest

I think this is my take as well. I am not even monetised, and have never been in it for fame/money but I think we'd all be lying if we said that we don't care about getting views. If that were the case we'd make the videos and keep them private.

exactly! :)

Having had my channel since late 2008, I only made a few direct-to-cam videos in early '09 - then just became a voyeur of other channels occasionally - YouTube wasn't an everyday thing I purposely went onto. Now, I do login everyday to see what's going on with my vids, and to catch-up on my subbed-channels.

I'm not monetising any videos as I'm too small to worry about it - strictly doing it because I'm enjoying it all.

I would stop. The people that are saying "I would carry on" either just don't care about stats AT ALL or they are simply lying. I, along with nearly everyone, enjoy editing videos and whatnot but if I don't see any growth whatsoever that will just ruin my motivation and determination to make videos since there'll be no point anymore. That's my take on it, at least.

I think I'd keep making videos because I'd play the guitar even if I wouldn't have a YouTube channel. But of course it's much more motivating to see new people subscribing to your channel and actually enjoying your content. And about becoming successful - it depends on how you define fame. But sticking to your example of 1000 subs and 500,000 views - I'd say it's pretty much possible! I'm still a small channel aswell and I wouldn't have imagined getting this 'far' in my first couple of months of uploading videos but according to my Socialblade stats I'll reach 1000 subscribers and 100,000 views by my 1-year anniversary so yeah, anything is possible. :)

Would loose motivation, so I would stop. I am doing it for fun, but not getting any views at all and growth of my channel would make me loose motivation and I would probably stop doing videos..

I'd have to say I'd likely stop and find a new avenue for my creativity.
I create because I have fun, but having others enjoy it only increases my desire to make more.
At the same time however if those 200 people were religiously following me I'd likely keep making them since that's a bigger audience then most people get.

Most of us are smaller 'Tubers with under 1,000 subs and under 500,000 overall views.

We all want our videos to succeed but the fact of the matter is, it won't happen to 99.9% of us. Doesn't matter the reason, only a very small percentage of people here will do 'well' (in the sense of gaining more than 1,000 subscribers and 500,000 views)

If someone who somehow knew came and told you that your channel would only ever gain another 100 subscribers and cease growing permanently, would you keep going? Would you stop?

I am curious; almost everyone I've ever spoken to here claims they do their vids not for fame, but for the love of it. But how much would you really have to love your channel to make videos if people stop watching?

I think anybody who puts a lot of work into their videos would be expecting fame out of it because they would want people to appreciate all that hard work they put into something for their viewers.

Personally, I don't put much work into my videos; I only do let's plays every so often for fun... nothing more! Of course, if I was trying to make Youtube money/get famous, I would be uploading every day, advertising, etc. Which leads me to my case : I still would upload even if I knew my channel wouldn't grow because that is how my channel is now! I know my channel isn't going to grow, yet I still upload just for fun every few months. :)

I feel like I just repeated myself a bunch in that last paragraph, but I don't feel like rewriting it. :P Oh well...
