Background Music

Loving YTtalk
Does having background music in a video typically increase the average watch time? Compared to a video without background music?

I personally hate backround music. It annoys the hell out of me.
Some might be good at times if you're playing a game or something or if its really quiet, dont make it loud, thats annoying.

Background music can be very annoying and I talk in my experience cause several people mentionned they don't like it. I use background music cause it is my editing style and I like it.

If you use it make sure to put it way lower than your videos sound or it will be confusing :yttalk:

Do you mean like if they are talking and there's music or when people do what I do and slow motion makes the sound so slow that you just don't use the sound and put music instead?[DOUBLEPOST=1453697205,1453697126][/DOUBLEPOST]

I usually play music at full volume because I don't talk in most of my videos, it's mostly like a music video I guess. I try to balance the sounds if there are any like when I'm mountain biking so that they are even.

It's usually crappy electro or the same royalty crap I hear from NCS every time lol. I don't like it, but I know some do was experimenting it with a bit in my channel bit idk I rather not.

Yeah, I mean when they are talking and have to have ultra sonic hearing aids to hear the person's voice instead of the "background" music when it's more like the person is the background voice... it's so annoying

I guess it really depends on the video. Say for instance it was a game i don't think background music would be necessary, but for something like a vlog definitely.

As some said it really depends on the kind of video. I personally think it's a little strange when there's no background sound in a vlog type of video. I think you just have to watch out on what kind of music you're using. You can't be making a beauty video and place a dupstep song over it. That type of genre doesn't really work as a background sound anyway. Keep it simple and it really needs to fit the type of video. Just cause it's a background sound doesn't mean it fits to every single video you make.

I think in this case the issue is volume, not the music itself. you cant have it drown you out. I use BG music in my straight the camera vlog style videos but i set the audio gain low enough that while you can hear it, it is exactly as it's meant to be, in the background!

Music takes an important part in my videos, since I don't talk in them. In fact, usually, the music dictates the video's feel, with the subtitles and cuts being synced to it.
