I record with my elgato but also record my friends voices but when I talk it puts down there voices is it better to record with a different program for my voice say audacity or what
I think a lot of people use an external recorder with their mics and sync the audio in post. I am unsure how that would work with multiple people over the internet, possibly not at all.

The ideal is Audacity (or better) with multiple inputs. They'd set the mic as one input and Skype as another. The primary issue if I recall correctly is that screen capture with Skype recording just uses the system audio which would then record the game audio. If he's recording with an Elgato then he'll be fine. If he screen caps with Windows, then it gets a bit more tricky but can still be resolved by dumping game audio to the left or right channel and duplicating it in post while dumping skype to the opposite channel.
Syncing should be easy as you just start the recording on Audacity and Elgato at the same time. Then it doesn't matter if there's a sound check or empty space at the beginning because you can just cut that part out.
