At what number of subs do pages tend to reach critical mass?

1K usually does tend to be the stepping stone, it was for me. But I can't stress it enough, you're still gonna have to do the same exact thing then as you do now with promotion; use twitter, facebook, reddit, tumblr, google+, whatever else you post to KEEP POSTING! People tend to want to subscribe more to a channel with more subscribers, so thats where it becomes a little easier. In the saturated realm of youtube nowadays, you're gonna fall behind if you rely on your channel to be self sufficient.

So at what point then do the subs start to increase do you think? I tend to get 1-2 a day. So like after maybe 1000, does it increase to maybe like 4-5 a day? or does it tend to stay about 1-2 a day ish. At least from what you have experienced?

It really depends on how often you post, the quality of your content, etc. Sure having a higher sub count will make people more inclined to subscribe to you, but you have to keep working harder and harder. Make every video better than the last one. I produce much better content now than I used to so I contribute my faster growth to that.

To try to answer your question, when I was around 1k subs I aimed for 100-150 subs a month; now I'm at 3.8K and I gained about 400 in the last month. All channels are different, but the point I just want to get across is your channel won't become truly self sufficient until you are very large. So no matter how big you continue to get, keep sharing your videos through all your social media outlets available, because that will probably be your main source of subscribers until you get probably 5-10k.

O yeah I think your channel will get stagnant if you don't continue to keep working at it. There is a bigger channel I used to watch, and he doesn't post as much, and doesn't use social media at all anymore, and now his youtube channel is not really growing anymore. It's probably more work the more subs you have, because a lot more is expected of you.

What big channel are you talking about? I couldn't ever imagine having a lot of subs and just giving up on youtube.

This is a really helpful post to know about, so my initial goal is 1k subscribers.
I've noticed I was hovering around 500 subscribers for what seems like forever, then only very recently nearing 700 things started to take off and I gained 10 subscribers over the weekend, hope it continues at this rate!

Any tips to help smaller channels slowely grow till they reach that mark? :D
