Are YouTube Giveaways seen as "buying subscribers/views"?

I've Got It
I like to do giveaways on twitter & YouTube, I do it because I feel like a need to give back to the people watch my videos & subscribe etc. But after a while I start to think if people just think i'm doing it to maybe gain some extra subs or views which is not the intention at all (usually because they unsub if they don't win). of course I say you can sub & enter the giveaway if you want because really there's no way for me to stop them.

I was just wondering what you think if you see someone (who isnt a massive youtuber) when you see a giveaway? Thanks for any replies.

Asking people to subscribe as a requirement for a giveaway is bannable on YouTube.

I do think it's like buying subscribers, I would personally wait until I was around the 500k mark OR when I was earning excess income off the channel (excess meaning roughly double on top of what I'd need to pay bills & fund the channel e.g. if I needed $1000/mth to pay bills, I'd need $2000/mth to compensate for giveaways) to start doing that kind of thing. Mainly because it could get costly doing them often especially at smaller sizes where the ad revenue is really low, also there's no way to guarantee the viewers are loyal 1s unless you saw them commenting on each of your videos but then during a giveaway you'd have to sneakily be biased and pick from the pool of people you commonly see to actually give back to the 1s who actually support you xD

It also depends on what you're giving away, going too big at smaller sizes definitely looks like you're buying subs e.g. giving away a game every week as opposed to every month or giving away consoles. Aim for things like vinlys or keychains, little things that really don't break the bank. But this is why I'd wait till I was much bigger, I'd want to go big or go home... figuratively lol

Understandable although I've seen massive youtube channels doing iPhone6 giveaways & they ask to subscribe to another channel of theirs.. I think the best thing to do is to not title the video as "giveaway" and just let the natural viewers watch a common video of mine & see that they can enter.. Thanks for the answer :P

I like @markkaz way of doing giveaways, they're unannounced and he will choose someone from who is active in his comments or on one of his social media. That's a good way to reward activity especially if your regulars know that by engaging with you they stand a chance of being chosen at random.

Thats actually a really good way to do it. Although if I wanted to give away an xbox one game and I randomly select someone who doesnt have the console then I will feel a bit bad. Although everyone loves Amazon Vouchers so I could stick to that :) Thanks

The problem is, even if that's not the intention, it could still be seen that way. Especially since most people will just subscribe or suddenly start commenting/liking videos... and then unsubscribe or stop watching once the contest is over.

I think I'll do what @Michael suggested. Do an Amazon Voucher Giveaway to a random subscriber who has commented every month or 2. Then I know it's going to the right people :)
Thanks for the help peeps!

Let your subscribers know you will be doing that at some point if you can, kind of indirectly encouraging them to be active and engage with you for a chance at some day being selected :)

Yeah I think I will. Will definitely urge people to comment :D Thanks

Givaways will get people to subscribe to you no matter if you mention it of not, but they soon unsubscribe when they don't win or see that you are not giving away stuff left and right. People love free stuff.
