Are outros/Outro Cards outdated?

Hey guys! I have a serious question about Outros/Outro Cards as I am(was)considering creating one. Many a moon ago big youtubers would have outro cards showing other videos and asking you to subscribe, however what I've noticed is that all the big youtubers I've checked, don't seem to have any outro cards.

Is there a reason for this? Like are outro cards out of date and no one likes them, or is it because they are already so big they don't need to bother with them?

I'd love to hear your thoughts guys!

Thank you!

What YouTubers do you watch? o.o All of my favorite ones have outro cards. Markiplier, SeaNanners, ChilledChaos, etc.

I checked PewDiePie, Yogscast, CinnamonToastKen and skydoesminecraft, non of them seem to use them anymore.

I'm trying to figure out if they just stopped caring/bothering about them, or if there is a reason for it.

Probably so... Apparently anyone that just signs up with Youtube is auto-subscribed to Pewds and Jenna, so I guess they wouldn't need to both anymore. I'll still use mine though since it's a good chance to add random pics of stuff.

Yup, to keep the playing field equal they practically force you to subscribe to them in order, unless you're technically savvy to get around the window blocking you from progressing any further. Thanks Youtube.

They can drive some extra traffic to other videos or help the impression that you're making consistent content.
It shouldn't take you too much work to make a outro card template and slap that edit onto every video's end.

Same here, I don't see any of my favorites not using outro cards.
They are also something I enjoy from a viewer's point of view because sometimes it helps me find content I'd normally miss.

intro cards will cause viewer retention to drop, but outro cards doesn't matter. People have already watched your content so anything extra is just gravy. That said a lot of YouTubers I've seen have opted for in video Call-to-Actions (subscribe, check out other videos) and having annotations there for that. An out card would also help with branding. I wouldn't recommend an intro card any more than one second. especially if you have ads on your videos and if you do keep it simple. Just a logo to help branding.
