Are graphics key to good editing?

So I recently was contacted after a design of mine was featured in a person's video (this is about Minecraft but I assure you the question itself isn't!) where he uses professional, clean lower-thirds, good funky music synced to elements in the video, typography, etc...

He cleverly uses annotations to make the video more interactive by adding bookmarks, timestamps, etc and he's been clearly rewarded for it. What he also uses however, is innovative editing and almost professional graphics.

I was curious to whether you guys think that the usage of such graphics (lower-thirds, typography, etc...) made the videos a more enjoyable experience, a more cluttered experience or a waste of time.

If it worth the extra time, do you have any tips or tricks to making good edits using good lower-thirds, etc...?

do you have an example of it? can you please link it? I'm not sure what it is, but I'd like to know :eek:
 
Yeah it is fairly impressive, and he's caught the eye of a lot of big names out there immediately from the video just because of his editing. I would love to edit like that but I'm wondering if it genuinely is down to the graphics you use?

by graphics are you referring to the titlecards in between the inventions/the titles at the bottom part of the screen?
If so, then yes, I think it adds a lot to the overall presentation. The minecraft pixel-y theme is apparent in those graphics, which tie them in nicely with the video itself.
As for the video editing, I don't think he did anything you couldn't do yourself. :]
