Just an fyi, YouTube is removing backgrounds from YouTube, and they're changing the way that banners work. Making any branding features other than avatars will probably be a waste.

They want to make channels look the same on your computer as they do on mobile devices (smart phones, ipads, etc.). They couldn't add them to mobile devices for whatever reason, so they thought it'd be easier to remove them from computer use. I disagree with the option, because I can't imagine a lot of people regularly watch people on a mobile device, but that's what they're doing. Look at the VSauce channel to see how all the channels will look after the switch.
