Hey guys. I have been making YouTube videos for 4 years now and I'm feeling depressed. I have 35 subscribers (which I am very greatful for) but I never get likes, comments, or hardly any views. So my question is, should I continue? Or should I just drop YouTube? Making videos is a fun experience for me and all but at the end of the day, if I'm just making videos for myself I'm not very happy. I try my hardest on each and every one of my videos, I buy equipment and spend multiple hours recording but I am beginning to wonder if it is all worth it. Any words of inspiration?
 
Sounds like me 2 years ago, I'd say try your best to improve in anyway you can. If you need to, take a break let the creative inspirational energy gather again. Because quitting youtube when you enjoy it so much is just shooting yourself in the foot. Also try collaborating with other people, this way you can find a new rush of energy by having new experiences etc.
 
do better,....something your doing is not working, try a new approach, maybe strive to have more fun, up the quality to where it takes you hours to edit but its worth it in the end, a year ago i didnt care, now my stuff looks like it takes hours, it takes minutes.
 
take this time to step back from your channel and see what in your content is not appealing to people, then try to improve that! I have done this many times recently myself too and it has helped me get results!
 
Think of having a YouTube channel as having your own restaurant. Now think of it as you're not having any good business for 4 years. Obviously something isn't right. Have you tried watching your own videos? It's kind of like tasting your own cooking. Are you satisfied with your own content? Would you watch your content? If not you seriously need to try a different approach, or to complete the metaphor, a better recipe.
 
Collaborating is fuckin pointless, because I had another guy stop replying to me about a collab. Everyone does this. Not you @Sinc FYI. I find it easy to believe why you don't have any subs - low quality equipment, you're young, and you make videos about stuff people would never search for.
 
Here's my advice on how to improve your channel.

  • Take advantage of custom thumbnails. Thumbnails can make or break a video. If a thumbnail is eye catching, more people will click on it. If it's not interesting, most people will skip over it.
  • Upload Schedule. Creating a schedule can help tremendously. Find a schedule that works for you, and stick to it. Whether it be once a week, once a month, or even daily. Going a while without uploading will make people loose interest in your channel, or forget about it all together.
  • Branding. Branding is very important to a channel. If your branding doesn't look professional, people aren't going to take your channel seriously. Your banner is cut off, and I can't read what it says. (Though i'm guessing it says CamandWill). You should use the template, and make it where the whole name is easily readable in the banner.
  • Video Aspect Ratio. Your videos are in HD, which is great, though the aspect ratio is off. Try making it 16:9 in your video editor. This will make your videos fit the entire video box, and make them look so much better.
  • Video Length. While some of your videos are short, some of them are very long. Try keeping videos shorter (3-4 minutes or less). This will help people watch more of the video, therefor helping you out in the searches. YouTube looks at watch time now to determine where videos are ranked, so the more watch time you get, the better. Long videos also tend to draw people away, and make them not want to click on the video.
  • Video Titles. I noticed a lot of your titles include "Cam and Will". Try to not including this. When people are scrolling through videos, "Cam and Will" will probably drive them away. Try just making an episode title, like "My Pet Horse", "Camera Rap", etc.
  • Create searchable content. Something that is very important is to create content people are going to search for. 100 hours of content are uploaded to YouTube every MINUTE. That's a lot of content. Creating content that people are searching for, will help you get more views, and more fans. Think about popular things right now, and create videos based around those. For example, a few weeks ago when Flappy Bird was popular, making a video about that would of brought some views, and fans. People were searching for Flappy Bird content. Try to do that now, but with things that are currently popular.

Try looking at your channel in the viewers point of view. If you were a random person who stumbled across your channel, would you be impressed? Would you like what you saw, and would you be entertained? Be honest with yourself, that's the best way to look at it. Think of other channels that inspire you, and think about the kind of things that they do. Don't copy them of course, but learn from them.

Keep in mind that you're very young in the YouTube world. You guys seem to be creative, and that's great, but your age is going to hold you back. Most people watch others who are older, usually 18-25+ . Age doesn't define talent, or success, so don't let it stop you. If you're enjoying making videos, then continue to make videos.

Try experimenting with different types of videos. If something hasn't worked after 4 years of doing it, clearly something needs to change.
 
Try something new because what you are doing right now is clearly not working; maybe try and research ways to make better and more interesting videos and promote yourself better. It's a shame it took you four long years to realize this but at least this forum will help you if you utilize it correctly.
