Any decent free or cheap editing software?

What is your budget?
That would be a good way for other users to base their answers.

If you're willing to shell out 400 bucks, I'd go with Hitfilm ultimate. It brings out the best of premier pro, and after effects with some 3D goodness built right in. Check out the trial!

Also,

An awesome free option is to use the Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve Lite. It's a sooper powerful color grading program that lets you edit your videos in a timeline like any other editing program, and because it specialises in color grading, you'll have an easier time getting a pretty image.

THe best way to start learning to edit in my opinion would be both, until you have the chance to upgrade to the adobe programs.

If you have a PC videopad is a free software and works great also Google Chrome has some apps you can use free as well
