[Answered] 1080p Question

CommMatt

Posting Mad!
So, I've been tossing around the idea of recording in 1080p for the smaller games I play (Which generally have smaller episodes)
While it'd be a pain to upload, I don't have any problem with it.
Except, wouldn't recording in 1080 while having a 1366x768 not work so well?

Thanks!

You can't upscale video without damaging the visual presentation (blur, pixilation). So, you would need to have a display resolution of 1920X1080 in order to do 1080p video uploads to YouTube (or larger display resolution and downscale).

If you have video editing software you can up-res anything to 1080p. So you can record in any resolution that's easy, then up-res to 1080p. While the final output won't technically be the same as pure 1080p image quality, it will upload to YouTube as 1080p and the viewer will have that as an option, if that is your goal.

Ah, that's what I was afraid of... Thank you for the reply!

Would that produce any buff in vid quality (without the problems said by Tarmack)?

There's no point recording in less than 1080p then up-scaling.

You're showing the same video but pretty much zoomed in. If anything it might make the video quality worse because you're stretching it. I would stick to 720p or get a 1080p monitor.

Alright, thanks!

The better way to think of it is in terms of pixels. 720p is 1280X720 display resolution. That's 912,600 pixels. 1080p is 1920X1080 display resolution which is 2,073600 pixels.

So if you record at 720p, you need to stretch the image 2.25 times to make it a 1080p video. That stretching however doesn't add any more detail.

Never thought of it that way... Thanks!

As other people have said, you can't squeeze more resolution out of what you're putting in. I suggested up-res because some people just want their viewers to have the (illusory) option of 1080p, even if it's technically not true 1080p.
