Annotations Worth It?

for me the only annotations I use are for links at the end of the video to the next episode. But again as you say, with people watching on the phone then these annotations become pointless

I use to add annotations for the viewers that comes from computers, but I hope to can add the new annotations for the people who view my videos from mobile (the half of them more or less). I think it's great to have the two options in our videos

I do annotate the outro, but spamming it all over will confuse people, especially in the middle of a video. I would never throw 4-6 annotations/notes in the middle of a video, it's horrible.

Thanks for the link. I showed my stats earlier. 12 MM monthly views, 200K views from annotations. That equates to 1.65% of my views are from annotations. That is in line with the article.

200K views means earnings of $400-$600 a month from annotations. That's a very small fraction of $28K but they help me keep people on my channel, increase watch time, and increase the chances of my videos being featured.

Thanks again for the link! I don't know how I missed that article.

I thought they were going to do some improvements that make new-looking annotations that are cross-platform compatible? What happened to that?

Info cards are still being beta tested. They need to tweak the design a bit more before they start testing it on the public. What I was shown looks promising, but it's all geared towards mobile, so the PC experience falls a bit flat.

I use annotations in my outros because I know how little kids like to see something and want to watch it, "oh, oh, I want to watch THAT one!". My kids do the same thing. I can't stand cluttered annotations throughout a video though. Annotations for "click like" or "thumbs up for this" while watching a video bug me. Also the invideo things bug me, I'm watching a freakin' video, quit buggin' me with this and that, ha! It's all distracting. I had someone want to 'collaborate' with me, I asked what he had in mind and he said he'd put annotations in his videos to watch mine if I did for his. Uhhhh, no. I don't like to mess up my videos with any annotations during the video, I'm especially not going to do so as billboards to go see yours! To me annotations cheapen videos during watch time unless they serve a rarely unique purpose. After the video is over, go for it in the outro. Just my opinion.

It is very rare for me to use annotations during a video. Out of 1,100 videos, I might have done it 10 times.

I have the same stats. 1.6% of my total views are from "YouTube video annotation" It all adds up. :)
