Annotations will soon be deprecated, and I suspect the end screen elements will be extended to use in the video itself with other intuitive functions available. I've seen a lot of youtubers just plonk the stuff at the end of the video and leave it at that (myself included) but I think it's worth the time to just make a nice end screen graphic to make it look more professional. My latest video shows what I mean. I love the end screen function, it's way easier than annotations. My only criticism is that it doesn't work if someone is watching through a TV as yet.
