Amused and Slightly Insulted

I Love YTtalk
A channel with 20 subscribers just asked me to collab with them and I said no. I wasn't interested in the type of content he produces (totally different than mine), his personality rubs me the wrong way, and.... I have a significantly larger audience. He's also never watched any of my videos (that I can tell - no comments from him or notification that he's subscribed) so I feel like he was just trying to mooch off of my audience that I've worked hard to grow.

I feel like the reasons to do a collab are to make new friends and get your channel more exposure, while also having fun. Collabing with him wouldn't have done any of those things for me.

So then, after I said "no thank you" to him (like four times...), he suggested that to "balance the scales" we make a video and I talk about it on my channel, and then he'll pay for Facebook to promote his channel so more people will see our video. "It's win-win!"

Haha, so I promote your channel, and then you promote your channel.... um, no thank you.

Have you ever had a situation like this, where someone tried to force you to do something to help THEM out by selling it as helping YOU?

LOL I think its kind of silly of him to do something like that. I respect his hustle but that was poor execution haha. I feel like as a new youtuber I need to get a handle on my channel before I start messaging people about collaborating. "Hey boo I see you got 10k subs lets collab so I can get somma dem" LAME

Happens all the time with us. We even had one guy with less than 20 subscribers demand that we fly him out to Los Angeles from Europe so he could film a challenge with us. I don't think it occurred to him that we would need to benefit from the collab somehow.

With where we're at now, I think we've earned the right to be choosy with collaborations. That doesn't necessarily mean that the other channel has to be larger. I often choose to work with smaller channels all the time and offer collabs to those who I think have a good shot to succeed-I see it as a sound investment that can easily pay off when their channels grow larger.

Loads of times, its why i dont do f*****g collabs anymore, all the youngers these days go on with some deceptive movements like they think they are something sick.

f**k them :) i only work with people who i get along with really well because im fed up of having to think up ******* ideas because people refuse to do the ideas i want for collabs

We wont even collab with oursleves.

I'm still waiting for someone who wants to collab with me. If someone's going to collab, they at least need to be close to the same size, if not, THE same size.
