Am I making a mistake?

Hey guys!
On my channel, I've gone with an old timey feel by making all the videos (i do music) black and white. It creates a strong aesthetic look, but I'm afraid it may be deterring some potential new viewers. Do you guys think this plan is a mistake? In my mind, I'm trading off potential new viewers for a stronger aesthetic (delayed reward) but I dont know if that is really the best idea.

Thanks! (You can see my channel below to see what Im talking about)

I'd really handle it on a video by video basis though. I'm not convinced that having a consistent look to EVERY video helps. Most big channels will subdivide their videos into categories. Each category has a consistent look and feel. Check out a channel called grav3yardgirl. Totally not the type of content that you do but I think she does a great job of having categories that are consistent even though the content across her channel varies from makeup tutorials to reviewing "as seen on tv" type products.

Just checked out yours. I think it's awesome and very artistic! No worries! :)

Awesome, I'm glad you guys like it! And thats an interesting idea 1978, I'm not sure if I want to switch, but I do agree with you.

I would maybe pop a few in there in color, and check the analytics see how that goes. You don't know unless you try ... :winky:

I agree with this. While I can understand and appreciate style and consistency I'm not sure your serving yourself by doing it in grayscale. Looking retro has alot more to do with the absence of color, you would also need some graininess that would probably get old to the audience. Think of how to best serve the content and go from there, rock music would definitely benefit from color.

Yeh you got an awesome aesthetic goin there man. Reminds me immediately of like Jack White's De stijl red white and black thing a few years back, probably because of the blues, but you got your own style. It's up to you though of course, I think the music stands up on it's own without every video having to be black and white.

Jack White was a lot of the inspiration for both the aesthetic and the music so I'm glad you said that. And I think you're right. I am beginning to think that greyscale won't really affect me too much in the long run. I think that I should be open to changing it if I become stagnant, but for now I dont think its hurting any.[DOUBLEPOST=1433865490,1433865394][/DOUBLEPOST]

Maybe I could try using colored filters as well? I think NOT doing original colors will keep my look the same, but purposely changing it to something meaningful will make things unique, interesting, and meaningful.
