Am I eligible to sign for a network?

Hi guys,

I have spent a year slowly building up my channel. I have checked Valve's terms and conditions and you are free to upload and monetize videos as long as you are not charging people to view the content. I'm sure ads don't count here. The game I play is Counter-Strike.

I have had one or two videos posted on the CSGO Blog advertising the Zombie Escape Mod which I am active on in both Source and Global Offensive. I have also been a Youtube Partner for a while and monetized my videos not knowing about the ads at the time. When I first monetized my content I thought all it did was drawer extra viewers lol. I was worried to do anything for a long while because of the whole copyright saga. As I do not own Counter-Strike, all I owned was the video that I recorded being played on their game and somebody elses map.

I have had plenty of inbox messages in the past 6 months from various networks and dismissed them all. For a long while I have been uploading just because I enjoyed recording the content I was playing, that as well as the copyright issue that surrounds everybody who posts anything these days.

Recently though I applied for Adsense. As far as I'm aware I have been accepted. I spoke to somebody else who records and earns money from the same sort of stuff that I'm recording and he's doing pretty well albeit with more subscribers. The thing that worried me was firstly not owning the game and then any sound that is played in the custom maps I clearly do not own. Some of this has been flagged as WMG and I cannot monetize which is fair enough, some of the others are being claimed by fraud companies that don't own the music, but as I don't either I don't know whether I can actually challenge that. I also do not do commentary, although a lot of microphone chatter including my own voice is included in the rounds.

So guys what do you think? Can I actually sign with a network or not? and if I can which one could I actually choose? I do plan to silence the sound as best as possible, and just record the map in future. Some maps can be silenced by options - turn down the music setting which silences the background noise but keeps the gameplay sound. That option isn't available for all maps though.

I have tried to stick to a niche and the same games. Yeah, it may become boring after a while, but I owe it to the people who have subscribed to keep the same sort of stuff as that is what they have come to expect.

I was leaning toward yes until I saw you say you do not do commentary. You simply uploading videos of yourself playing games without commentary is against YouTube's rules on uploading gaming content. So no you can not partner with a network. Nor should you monetize your videos.

It isn't a single player experience, it's all multiplayer and Valve say you can monetize the videos on Youtube. I guess my dream is over then.

I had been getting Matched Third Party content because of the music in my game I did go back and fixed it and muted some parts and made the game volume really low its worked. I know it doesn't affect me since I'm not parthering because I suck for the time being, but I want to be coryright free zone when I do decide to get partherned in the future you know, but I think that's not fair is not fun without having the music of games even if you commentate over it, I guess that's how youtube works and man I wish myself and everyone else luck with the new copyright thing going on right now.. :D

"Videos simply showing a user playing a video game or the use of software for extended periods of time may not be accepted for monetization."

If you only upload Valve content, it's possible since you can show the network their video policy. I'd be careful about not including commentary for any other games by different developers though.

The Valve policy was the least of my worries ;). Thanks for clearing that up though. I was worried, and didn't really want to make comebacks and cause an argument if I was in the wrong.

If I am able to keep the monetizations and join a network which one could I apply for? As above I have been asked by several TNG/Fullscreen and some smaller ones in the past, sometimes on more than one occasion, but at the time had no interest in joining a network, and this was long before I made an Adsense account.

Yeah Daniel, I intend to stick with Source or Global Offensive. Maybe switch it up between mods here and there on the same games.[DOUBLEPOST=1389690758,1389632335][/DOUBLEPOST]BUMP

Sorry for the double post. Seems like the thread got lost in the wilderness.

So yeah, I was wondering what should I do. Should I stay with Adsense, wait for a network or approach one? and if so which one? I'm sat on the fence at the moment. I don't really know a great deal about monetization, ads, networks although I have read a fair deal about it recently. I have been told by a few friends that I have a decent subscriber base which is on the up I should add and my daily channel views are not great, but I average like 8K I think. Which is great for an ancient game with just mod gameplay.

I was curious if you'd be willing to message or talk via skype, I'm involved with a network and would love it if you'd be open to hearing a few of our benefits via skype? If so you can add me at: Oneplaceproductions
