In September of 2013, Maker Studios bought blip.tv for less than $10 million dollars.
In April of 2014, Disney purchased Maker for $500 million (and up to $450 million in incentives)

VideoInk is reporting:

In the past couple of weeks, Blip, which is currently owned by Maker Studios, has been sending emails to its community of users that hint at a possible closure. “We noticed that you’re still uploading a considerable amount of content to Blip.TV,” reads the note from Jeff O’Connell, SVP of technology at Maker Studios. “Blip is now part of Maker Studios, which is now part of Disney, and we’re unsure how long Blip will accept new content. We suggest that you find an alternative hosting platform as expediently as possible.”

I have uploaded a video to DailyMotion and it has terrible traffic. Vessel is looking to become a new player in the market. Fullscreen is reportedly developing their own app/website as well.

While I look forward to additional sources to host my content, YouTube is too dominant of a platform to abandon.

I cant say I have ever seen anywhere else that allows you to reach such large audiences but then I havent really given the other platforms a good chance by learning them like I have with YouTube. I think they be good for some but it is all niche dependant, YouTube is where it is at.

People talk about vessel this vessel that, I go to vessel.com and I don't see anything, are there videos there.

I'm not sure if Vessel is still in the beta stage or if you have to pay $2.99 to access the videos.[DOUBLEPOST=1424370424,1424293963][/DOUBLEPOST]http://recode.net/2015/02/18/vessel...c-for-exclusive-access-to-select-music-videos

Interesting development from Vessel. 1/3 of the views on YouTube are reportedly music videos. Vessel has reached an agreement with UMG (Universal Music Group) to window content. Vessel's primary strategy is to have content first, give creators a larger share of the ad revenue, advertisers pay a much higher rate (reportedly up to $50 CPM), and creators also get a percentage of the $2.99 monthly subscription fee that consumers pay to see the early content.

Is the 3-day window really that important to consumers? I know I can wait for a few days for that content to appear on YouTube without having to pay for a subscription.

I forgot about Vessel. I remember seeing that a few larger Youtubers had gone there but I forgot to keep up with it. I've never honestly checked an alternate video hosting site.

Vessel is funny. I signed up for giggles to their Beta. First month is free, $2.99 after that. Let me tell you precisely how much I'm willing to pay to beta test your software for you.

Yes, after your trial, let us know about the experience. I applied to be a content creator and they weren't interested.

We’ve carefully reviewed your application. Unfortunately, we are not able to invite you to become a Vessel creator at this time. We consider a number of factors in evaluating applications including content category, language (we’re English-only for now), posting frequency, and audience.

Even though it’s not a fit right now, we’re constantly evolving our service. We have all your information saved and will reconsider your content as we expand our offerings.

Then I get an email saying that I can join the beta. Sure, they want my money...
