Allow me to gaze upon your channel...

I'm in the process of recording and editing a new video, which is nice because it's going to be the first in over six months. I would appreciate some feedback though, before I start getting back into the swing of things. It'd be nice to have some outside perspective on what I have going on, and if there's any glaring issues I've overlooked before continuing along with them.

Much appreciated

@Klink
Thanks a lot for the fast and detailed review man !
I've seen people havin only Mount&Blade content on their channel and they are +1.8k subs.... so at least 'till that point I know it's possible :-D

You have some incredible skill, my friend. Channel header is simple yet absolutely solid, although it would look better to have the same text/font/typeface as you use in your videos and in the thumbnails of your earlier videos.

I take it you've been picked up by a network already, correct? Your videos are incredibly edited and the shots you managed to capture using in-game cameras are amazing. To be honest, you don't need my advice since you absolutely know what you're doing. Let me know when you upload your latest video since I'm looking forward to seeing it.

@ImNotFrank

Right off the bat your channel header, avatar, logo and colours are great. It's also great to see you giving credit to the designer.

Viewing your channel as is shows that you have no content. I know your content exists because I clicked on 'Videos' but your home page, the first thing users see when clicking on your channel, shows nothing. You need to set up your home page so it displays your latest videos and playlists if you have any.

It's an old web design principle that applies to YouTube and any form of content creation. Back then, if users couldn't get to or see your content within 10 seconds then you've lost them forever. Nowadays, that time has been reduced to nothing. If people can't see what you have INSTANTLY then they'll find another channel. First impressions matter more than you think.

Your thumbnails are fantastic. Each series is clearly defined and consistent. I advise that you put your Sleezer logo somewhere in your thumbnails (top right hand corner perhaps?) so people know the content belongs to you.

As for the videos themselves, you're off to a great start. I'd be interested to hear your audio quality when your new mic comes in. You're definitely on the right track, you just need more content or at the very least a frequent upload schedule.

@Melvin2898

The channel link in your YTTalk profile doesn't work. I'm assuming this channel belongs to you? https://www.youtube.com/user/sirmel11

I'll base my critique off of that channel.

On the computer I'm on I can hear a lot of background noise with your audio recordings. It's great that you're not blowing out the mic with plosives but I can't ignore the backgroud noise hiss. Like the other advice I have given in this thread, record 10 seconds of silence (turn mic on, don't speak, just record the natural room noise) and depending on what audio program you're using, use the noise sample to cut it out of your main recordings.

Core concept of your channel is good - reviews of cartoons and commentary on certain topics. However nothing you have visually can be attributed to you. 'Sirmel11' is written in a plain typeface and has a simple black stroke, similar to your thumbnails which uses the very meme heavy Impact font. Your channel header is a collage of anime and cartoon characters and your thumbnails are just images taken from promotional art. Nothing about any of this tells me the content is yours or belongs to you.

To top it off, the videos themselves are just the same images used for the thumbnails with audio commentary laid on top. I understand that leaving a podcast/netcast/audio commentary on while working on something else works for a lot of people. Your commentary however is short so it has no staying power like a 1-2 hour netcast.

Try to find a way to keep people visually interested in your videos - add an audio visualisation (like the old school Winamp visualisations) or change the pictures around every so often. Keeping it static doesn't hold peoples' interest visually. Also consider adding in some music in the background (in post, not while you're recording).

I really appreciate that dude, for real. I spent a lot of time on the edits, and it's the aspect of making videos I enjoy most. The fonts should all match up before long, was just messing around with different styles and overall "looks" to see what stuck best.

Nah, never joined up with one. I got a few offers/inquiries when "Where's My Bike" dropped initially, but didn't feel comfortable signing myself off to some network. I never planned on monetizing my videos and there wasn't a whole lot a network could offer me to really pull me in. I know a few people who are really happy with their respective networks, and mention the viewership bump they get, but I'm indifferent. At least now.

I'll make sure to hit you up when it wraps up, hopefully within a few days!

@ehmaysi

You sound a lot like me. :)

I highly respect your stance and your attitude. To be honest it's refreshing. Part of me wants to commission you for a few videos for my channel but there's no real benefit to you promotional wise at the moment. Sure, you'd walk away with some cash but your channel eclipses mine in subscriber and view count so you'd never get that proverbial 'bump' people tend to chase on YouTube.

You've got some serious talent and a good head on your shoulders. Should you ever decide to make a career out of YouTube I know you'll do extremely well.

@Tim Vu

Thumbnails definitely look a lot better. Nice and consistent! With my comment regarding your channel URL, I meant within your profile here on YTTalk. Clicking on 'FiniteGames' in your signature is a dead link at the moment, so until you get your unique channel name it'd be best to add your direct channel link (UCYMOVc...etc).
