Advice on Channel Groups, good or bad strategy?

I just stumbled on a YouTube channel that was a group of creators. That channel and my channel are family channels. Since I'm new to the idea I wanted to ask you veterans if group channels are a good thing or not.

Is it worth joining up with other like minded creators? You may get more views because their followers may also follow you, but does it look desperate? Will their followers really watch your videos and what if you get big and decide to leave the league? It is better for some types of channels than others?

are you talking about all uploading to the same channel, like each person uploads once a week or something, i owned my channel for about 2 months when i was approached by a larger channel to do a upload for them once a week, it was the same content as i made so i gave it a go. i did it for about 6 weeks, and i did see a small rise in subs. i felt it was not worth it. i prefer to have my content all to myself. plus as a group people could have fall outs etc and it could get ugly (i left the group because someone was stealing my ideas)

Yes, that's exactly what I'm talking about.

kinda felt like it was a bad idea but I wanted to hear other peoples experiences with it. Thanks for the incite!
 
Personally, I don't like them. Only because everything is repeated to often, they always have a common theme and your basically watching the same video all week in different forums.
 
I'd be very wary of joining in a financial arrangement with people met off the internet. Very wary!
You can always start by doing a shout out or do a 10 second clip for each other, that sort of thing.
Imagine you join a group and a video blows up to 20 mill views! Who's going to cash the google check?
