Advertising over Creating

I've Got It
Sup guys, I'm not as active on the fora around here as I should be, but i just wanted to see whether the opinions i have on advertising are similar to some of you.

It seems to me that some channels, without uploading quality / funny / good content get more subscribers than the channels that put all their effort into making creative videos, because they simply advertise more, or more aggressively.
I know that without advertising yourself, there is no way to get yourself known out there, but i do really find it sad to see channels with over 200 / 500 / 1 or 5k subscribers although their content can be called average.
And i have heard before, focusing on quality over advertisement can get you higher over the long run, but i don't actually think Youtube works that way. Sadly.

So yeh, not a real question here, other than asking for your opinions on the topic :)
just wanted to blow off some steam.

I think time is a factor as well. Meaning a lot of these people with hundreds of thousands of subs have been at it for years. I think if you put out good quality you will get noticed in the long run, and you should also make sure you take the time to put yourself out there.

I agree that the biggest channels are the ones that were started years ago. From time to time I even see a channel with a couple thousand subs and only three badly filmed videos, but then I look at the dates and the videos are all from years ago. It seems people who started early got that extra head start, and today - if they continued to create good content - they may have millions of subs.

Maybe today you don't get the initial views so you have to promote more but you still need the good content to make it big. Is there really any new channel out there with lots of subs but bad videos?

I think that both are really important. If you advertise and advertise loads and loads, you will probably get the subscribers, but if you are making awful content, they won't stick around and you will just have dead subs so it'll all be pointless!

But yeah, deffo agreeing with everyone about the time thing, a lot of YouTubers (Sprinkle of glitter and Melon Lady have deffo said this) have even said in their Q&A videos that they got started before it became such a popular thing to do, and so they got a head start, where as now, so so many people have channels, it's extremely hard to get noticed! But persistence is key, hopefully we will all reach our goals one day! Even if it does take a few years! :)

True, i'm guessing when you've been around for a while you have a bigger time to get noticed, and might not need as much advertisement nor good content, i find it quite annoying how you cant always see when a channel started, but thanks! i wasnt actually thinking about that.

Like everyone said, you need a mix of both. Those channels that do more advertising than uploading will get a lot of subs in the short-term, but have to be careful not to get ahead of themselves and sacrifice quality content. Having said that, advertising is important to get the ball rolling for a small channel. In the long-term, content is and will always be king :)

Both is important, though if you're vidoes are not of good quality people won't come back. But when you start out nobody knows about you, so then adverstising is pretty much the only way to get a big enough fanbase for your channel to go on by itself.

For you tubers who started early, they also had less competition since YouTube was small back then. It was hell of a lot easier to get noticed.
