Advantages of multiple channels?

I once had a very pleasant chit chat with Bing (slomozovo) when i started out my channel, i asked him all about multiple channels for different content and his advice was this
"when your small, put everything on one channel, cause people need to get to know YOU as a person as well as your content, if everything you make is in one place you build up a big audience much quicker than running multiple channels, then when you have a large number you can break them across multiple channels if need be because the large numbers will follow"

at this time me and my friend had just started, i kept all my content together and my friend made 3 channels, one for music, one vlogs and one skits.
my channel got over 1k subs in a year. where as none of my friends 3 channels broke 100 subs.

i think it was more to do with consistency too. with one channel one vid a week is easy to manage, if you have 3 making 3 vids a week can be tough.

i now run 2 channels and as bing rightfully said i managed to start my second one with instant subs which was nice

That is exactly what I said on earlier posts and I agree 100% with that idea.
