Ad revenue on stolen content

What happens when someone steals your content and generates even more views than you do and had been earning ad revenue for a while? Besides reporting them etc.. what actually happens to the money? I read somewhere it use to go to the original owner/creator but this may have changed recently. Does anyone know? I have done a forum search and didn't find any new info. TIA

Put a claim on their video, once the claim is submitted the money from monetization gets put in a side account that the winner of the claim gets

Well, you might have to sue em. Won't be worth the trouble if it isn't in the thousands. And I would get in touch with Youtube or something.
Hi, I'd never sue them and Youtube do act in this case but I was just wondering what happened to the funds.[DOUBLEPOST=1463901487,1463901421][/DOUBLEPOST]

Thanks for reply - appreciate it, if these thieves are doing such a good job with views may let them run a bit longer :)

Except you only get the money generated after the video gets hit by your claim, unless YT also changed that recently, which I haven't heard about.
Ah thanks, I see... This still gives these thieves some sort of incentive. There is software they use to rip off videos and churn out channels. Would be great if YT returned the money to the original owner for the lifetime of that stolen monetized video. Would remove the appeal for people to steal content even for a short amount of time.

Yeah up until a month ago it was if you claim a video you automatically get the revenue but then there were so many false claims just for profit so they decided to put the money in a side account, something the community has recommended for years.
