About ads and when someone clicks off an ad.

I've got a yen for being in Japan!
so if a video has a 30 second ad, and you skip it at the 5 second mark, do you get any monitization? What about 15, 20, 25 or even 29 seconds of the ad? How does that work? Same for banners. If you don't click but still see it? I've seen some that say like "2for 1 Big Macs", I don't need to click it to get the info, but I still run out and buy it.

I've noticed some ads cannot be skipped too. How do you get those? I'd sure like them... I've also seen ads that are 5 seconds and some that are over 5 minutes! Why??

Also if everyone just skips an ad after 5 seconds, why don't advertisers get smart and jam as much info as they can in the first 5 seconds before they get skipped? Hmm.
 
It's people like you that make other people use AdBlock...why would you want to have 30 second unskippable ads on your video? That turns me away from practically any video except from people I really like. It's only beneficial if you're REALLY about getting the money, but it's such a disservice to the people that watch your videos. Just do the 5 second skip ad. It's sorta bothersome how you seem so bent on making money off of every little ad. Make money off YouTube, I think it's awesome you're able to, but you don't need to penny pinch..

I was only saying that I've seen non skippable ads. What causes it? It's not every case. I still haven't made the first $100 yet. But I was just curious to see if anyone has any idea about it. I think million view videos get unskippable because it's expected that people sit thru it. I've only seen 5 second ads you can't skip.
 
Advertisers are only charged (and uploaders paid) when a viewer watches 30 seconds of the ad or watches to the ad's completion, whichever is shorter. Or if a viewer interacts with an ad (clicks on it or touches it). So banner ads are only paid if they are clicked on or touched.

Good answer. Thanks. I guess if you watch 29.9 seconds they get nothing.
 
I use unskippable ads on a couple of my videos you get the choice of long unskippable and short. I wouldn't ever pick long because 20 seconds is more than long enough.

these types of adverts are something you request from your partner manager, they need to be approved first. and honestly I don't have a problem putting these types of adverts on my videos. I don't mind sitting through ads on other peoples videos either.

I probably wouldn't use them if I uploaded daily, but since its 2 or 3 videos a year I don't see how people would complain.

Yea. And you're stuff is good ! I didn't know you could arrange to have them, I thought they were random. But two spots at 5 seconds each for a 15 minute video isn't much considering a half hour tv show is 8 minutes of commercials

In Japan there was a cute ad for a milk company with a dancing milk carton singing about how he was made. I'd share it on YouTube but it's an ad not a video. I'd also hope that it would pop up so I could see it. I never minded sitting thru it
