A Production Company contacted me to possibly Host a TV show?!?!

Yes, it is true! I couldn't believe it myself.... (I have a question for you all at the end)

I was contacted about 3 weeks ago by a production company (which I won't name at the moment) who produces many shows for HGTV, DIY Network, ABC, FOX, MTV, Travel, History Channel and more! They are going to be starting a new show that will air on HGTV that is about restoring historic homes.

Somehow they found me on Youtube and the casting director for the company sent me an email asking if I could email her, so I did of course. Fast forward to now and I have been emailing back and forth with her lots of information about myself (nothing like SS#...), done a Skype interview, filmed myself taking a "client" through a home as per request and also some "intros" to the show and I was even asked to do a little photo shoot for them which I did and I have sent them all the information.

So far so good and they appear to like me but I don't have definite word yet, but I should know something around the 16th, or so I was told.

Anyhow this is an incredible opportunity that I am truly blessed to even have. It really makes me feel good about the time and effort that I put into making my DIY/How-to videos. (I make woodworking videos mostly)

As for my question for you, the more knowledgeable YT'ers:

If I get the hosting position (long shot I know), I would like to start vlogging and kind of give a behind the scenes look at the show and just what it's like to do this sort of thing. I know I may not be able to release some information before the show airs....
What I am wondering is if I should start a new channel for the vloggs? I'm thinking so, but I kind of hate to have to start from the bottom again with a new channel. I like the privileges I have currently with my main and established channel. (custom thumbnails, search ranking, subscribers, monetization and other things)
Would it be smart to start a new channel to vlog with?

Thank you all for you time and input!

Since we don't know exactly the topic of this new show, it would be hard to answer whether you should have a separate blog/vlog or not.

Best wishes on landing the job!

Very awesome opportunity man. As for multiple channels they can be hard to manage. You could do a weekly vlog on your current channel and I think it'd work just fine. Just make sure that your vlogs are relevant to your channel and it won't be a big deal xD

Thanks for the feedback!

The show, as I slightly mentioned in post #1 is about restoring historic homes. What I see myself vlogging more about is the behind the scenes look at how shows are filmed. Maybe a little what's really going on compared to what is being shown on TV. I don't think I'd be doing any how-to videos like on my current channel, but if I did I could upload them to my current channel where they would be relevant.

I guess I could ask my subscribers what they would prefer?

I would wait and ask permission from the production company first. Maybe they won't want you filming behind the scenes of their sets ? Or what happens if they informally say ok and then you film something that unwittingly puts them in a bad light and it goes viral? That's going to be awkward to say the least.

Sorry I don't want to sound negative, it's awesome news about the possible opportunity of hosting the show! I love how YT can help get people exposure, but I think your primary concern should be your future employers and not your subs. Just some friendly advice :)

Congratulations and good luck

Very well said Andrew (I checked out your channel and got you name) a spot on post there.

I really appreciate your thoughts. Some behind the scenes stuff could really jeopardize myself and company and more importantly my future employment. I guess I will wait until the time comes and maybe chat a little bit about it with someone with the production company.

Thank you so much, marvelous post.
