5 or 12 mega pixels?

A mega pixel is 1,000,000 pixels.

1280X720 = 921,600 (Not mega pixel)

1920X1080 = 2,073.600 (Approximately 2.1 mega pixels)

Extrapolate as necessary.
 
There's nothing stated, so there's no way to be sure. It's not really a 12MP cam. The description says it's 2MP and you can use software to get it to 12, which is going to look awful. I don't think the video quality is going to be good on something like this.
 
Megapixels do NOT make any camera better. All about the sensor. My old 2 megapixel camcorder is a lot better quality than many 12 megapixel camcorders. More megapixels means you can print a bigger image without stretching it too, dosen't say anything about quality.
 
Just buy the Logitech C920 and be done with it. It's about $100 and you won't need another webcam for years. ;)
 
usually HD would be classed as the frame height being 720 or 1080 pixels, but the 12 mp will be better quality
