5 minute videos VS 10 minute videos

If I made a 5 minute video that got 3 minute watch time on average, and also a 10 minute video with 5 minutes on average, which is better for getting a video popular? Thanks :)

Just have them fight to the death. My money's on 10 minutes since... well... it's twice as many minutes. Figure twice as powerful. Definitely gonna beat the crap out of 5 minutes. Sorry if this wasn't helpful.

I think it depends on how much entertaining content you have per video. If you only have 5 minutes of entertaining content, don't try to stretch the video to 10 minutes, as that can lead to less interesting parts where you can lose audience interest. If you have 10 minutes of content and your subscribers are willing to watch for that long, then go for it!

Now that you mention it... I lose interest in my own videos if they go past 10 minutes, lol.

From my experience with youtube, when starting out, it is a good idea to start with smaller videos. As you gain popularity, you can venture into longer videos. Keep up the good work!

YT values overall session view time above all else. As long as your videos contribute to the overall time the viewer spent on the site, it will do well. If your video bores or annoys the viewer and they close the browser, your video will die quickly. 5 or 10 minutes doesn't really matter as long as it keeps viewers viewing and engaged. Sure, it's better to keep the viewers 5 minutes on your videos than 3, but if it's 3 minutes in a 3 minute video (with 100% retention) or 5 minutes in a 50 minute video (with 10% retention), I would go with the 3 minute over the 5 minute.
So you control what you can - make the videos as long as they need to be, cut slow bits, make everything snappy, and don't worry too much about the length.

I agree with this.

So many times I'll watch a video and it's great the first few minutes and you can tell the person put a lot of effort into editing it down and then it just loses it's interest, which isn't good.
