really interesting that youtube seems to be putting its foot down and making it so people can't monetize youtube videos. what do you guys think? just enforcing their own guidelines or trying to stop freedom of speech?

Maybe too many advertisers complaining about their adds showing up at fouled mouth videos? Maybe they could have better made it 18+ or something and tag the video's as explicit would have been better. Like those rap CD's with stickers on it haha

Serious question. I haven't watched it just yet so I am a bit ignorant to exactly what is going on. But does freedom of speech apply to YouTube's platform? If they created it and tell you that you can use it but you have to follow their rules, that's kinda how it goes right? That's my thought process anyway. I was listening to a Scarce video on the way to work yesterday and I turned it off right away when he said he thinks it is bull s**t and YouTubers should be able to say whatever they want. I really disagree with this. Some of these channels just attack other people and have millions of subscribers. I really think they have a responsibility to watch what they say in those cases. Their platform is way to big to just spout off whatever they want.

Its really not an abridgment of free speech because as a private entity they can choose what to accept and reject to appear on the platform. I'd never let my kid have YouTube unsupervised simply because there's no filter whatsoever. But that's only my opinion and I won't stop others. It's also my opinion that theres more creativity in not swearing

I agree here. I let out some language sometimes. It just happens. But is maybe once or twice per video. I believe you can build a good channel without strong language all the time or even at all. Not that the language offends me at all.

Yea. I think for adults it's fine. A well placed swear has a strong effect. But just telling F F F F over and over again does nothing. I saw in breaking bad commentary once that they were allowed one F word each year. That made them really think about how best to use it. In that I don't mind. But the usual YouTube video of a kid playing gta5 swearing a blue streak? Well, F that

I agree with a lot of what you said. They chose to abide by youtube's terms when they signed up for a youtube account. I'm inclined to take anything Philip says with a huge bucket of salt (because I have no respect for him as I think he lacks understanding and good character). So there's that. He's probably not telling the whole story. I can almost guarantee it.

Well with the new changes stuff like this is already happening which absolutely disgusts me, and other youtubers are already being messed up..this is not a good idea AT ALL. (Also sorry about language in these screenshots)

Hmm. I still don't see a problem. Youtube is allowing him to show the video and share his story. He even said he don't care about the ad revenue. If it is just a story he wanted to tell then both sides win. I put up a video in defense of a long time subscriber because he was being bullied relentlessly on his channel. I put it up as support. I would never have dreamed of monetizing that. If you want to share the story but don't care about the money you are still free to do so.

Yes but it seems that in this instance Youtube is segregating a video about this subject because it is about depression. Also, other examples of people that have been messed up by this/other opinions on the matter:
