According to Venture Beat (link below), YouTube is rolling out a series of social networking features called YouTube Backstage. Users will be able to post photos, text, videos (of course) and polls to their channel page.
I am guessing this is in response to the fact that most people go off YouTube to places like Instagram, Facebook and Snapchat for their social networking needs. This would position YouTube as more of a "one stop shop", something they should have done years ago, but maybe there's still time to catch up.
