Is there a way to trim the top of a video off say something visual is in the way and you don't want it in the shot? If not is there a free program that can? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Not sure you can do that on windows movie maker (I assume you mean windows movie maker live)

You can always, uh, torrent some great stuff to aid your editing.

I have thought that as well, the problem is I don't have the greatest of computers. So when I would render the videos my computer wouldn't hold up. So I have to stick to the lightweight stuff.

Try Virtualdub. It's open source (free) and you can crop the top, bottom or sides from your video. You can use Virtual dub for other editing processes as well.
