Why do many Youtubers have animated versions of themselves?

I've noticed this increasing trend of Youtubers creating a cartoon/animated of themselves in which they will often speak through (or at least have it on every thumbnail). I'll assume this has to do with attracting attention based on what's popular, but I don't like how just about all of my subscribed Youtubers have adopted this feature.

I’ve never seen this. Example please

And as someone who in the 80s and 90s had to go thru heck just see 30 minutes of anime, I hate how ubiquitous it’s become. Today’s kids would never know my struggle.

What kind of Youtubers are you talking about? Gamers? Animators?

I made a little chibi version of myself as well, just because I like to draw and thought it would be fun. It's a part of branding yourself, really.

animators do it because .. well its in the name. gamers probably do it to be more a "character" or for anonymity and safety that comes with that.
vloggers and face revealers probably just do it for fun :)

I'm a lunch box.
I think it's more fun to create a character, rather than just having a picture of myself or some text/logo etc.
