Which Types Videos Can We Monetize?

Tr
True i usually dont add music, do you like when people add background music or it doesn't matter? whats your take on background music
I tend to enjoy videos a lot more when there is some background music. I think it really helps to set the mood too. Is the video serious? fast? silly? etc so I think it helps. You can also find some royalty free music that can be used. Usually you have to give them credit in the description and that's it.

This is correct. Make sure you get written consent from your friend.
Sadly even with consent it doesn't make a difference sometimes. I don't have a big channel and I don't have any high view videos, but I have found that sometimes youtube makes it seem like its not worth their time to authenticate my permissions on music.

You have some serious view videos on your channel, so you probably care about monetizing because it will actually make you money.

That being said it seems like unless you are a fairly large channel YouTube will just randomly not monetize videos because of music. I have like 2 or 3 the YouTube just doesn't care about where the music came from, they just aren't going to listen to my appeals for monetization.

If a computer some where recognizes music in your videos sometimes youtube makes you jump through hoops to prove you own the rights. And sometimes they don't care if you own the rights.
Thanks for your input, greatly appreciated.. i'll try to avoid this music thing too risky Lol

It does indeed make a difference. From a legal standpoint. If your content is getting flagged, it could be a MCN being evil, but you're likely to win an appeal in that case.

it makes a difference only if YouTube reads your appeal. Your channel has quite a few subscribers and quite a few views. I don't think you have trouble getting YouTube to read your appeals.

For those of us starting out though.... YouTube doesn't always follow up with those appeals. Or even care when you provide proof of commercial rights. If they don't see your video racking up views sometimes they just drop it as far as I can tell.

You'd be wrong on that front. I'm still about two months in waiting on an appeal on a single video, out of 100. I'd still take the 1% removal percentage for the ability to use music when the situation calls for it.

I'm sorry you've had a bad experience with them though.

That's awesome that you get 1 in 100 but unfortunately I get about 1 in 5. It's an enormous pain considering all of the music is my creative property. Most people have told me not to worry about it because it's not like my videos are making any money anyway. If they ever do though and I get one that can't be monetized I'm going to be unhappy.

This is all very interetesting... so what happens exactly? They remove that single video, or does the page still exist with some kind of error message? Does it count as a strike against your account? Two months seems like a long time... you would think they would have more people working on that sort of thing.
