whats up with all these partnership programs?

Hi every since I got on this form there has been a lot of talk about partnership companies which makes no sense when you could just use YouTube's partner program what makes it even more weird is how they get their ads on your video in the first place! Could someone explain this to me

Hmmm I think that one point is that you have s support in the networks. And I think that I heard that there are also differences in the earning of money. So at first I believe that the networks are more for those who aren't yet partnered with youtube. :)

I am going to talk from the basis of gaming, there are many other partnership programs, but this is the one I know about.
Basically on YouTube, as everyone knows, you can get partnered and earn money. However, YouTube's adsense works on the basis of ads clicked on, so if nobody clicks on your ads, you won't get paid, plus you only get paid every $10 you make, which seems easy enough, but you only get about 10 cents for a click, if that.
Another problem is that if your channel gets big, and you are with the YouTube partnership program, if you have any strikes against your account for copyright, which you would get for trying to monetize gaming videos, then you could get banned, which would mean you would have to start from the very beginning again.
Now, if you get with a partnership program eg. fullscreen, machinima, TGN etc, you will get a set pay per CPM (Cost Per Mille), and this will range from between $0.92 CPM to $3.00 CPM, and possibly even more if you get really big. so you get paid a fixed rate per 1000 views, which is a lot better way of making any money from your videos.
Also, most, if not all partnership networks have paid licences to all the different companies for copyright liabilities, and will mean that for as long as you are partnered with that network, you can use their content and make money off of it without any copyright strikes or claims being made against you.
That is the main reasons for choosing a network over YouTube, hope I cleared that up, feel free to ask any more questions :)

You automatically become a YouTube "Partner" when you monetize one video successfully but it won't come with the traditional features such as banners etc.

Many join a Network to get those features as it is the only way at this time to get them.

You join the Network by linking your YouTube account to the Networks CMS (Content Management System/Content Manager) account once you're linked you will have all the features enabled instantly and you claim your videos (enabling ads) so all your revenue will go to the Network which then pays you xx% out of what you earned (the percentage depends on the agreement)

There is only around just a guess 50 Multi-Channel Networks (Counting ones you can apply for). The rest are just sub-networks of one of those 50 MCNs.

I suggest you read what YouTube provides on MCNs http://www.youtube.com/yt/creators/join-mcn.html

So I now know the advantages of a network vs YouTube but how do the ads get in your video in the first place including the extra features does the network have some kind of deal with YouTube? Thanks for all the people who have helped me so far.

When you claim your videos it's basically the same as Monetizing them when you're just a Partner with YouTube that will enable ads on your videos. Most of the ads are served by Adsense just like if you were on your own without a Network and yes Multi-Channel Networks have special relationships with Google. You have to have a Partner Manager at YouTube just to enquire more details on starting one up!

If your in a network is your videos placed on the network's channel?

No, you have to have a directorship with the channel if you wanted to post content to it. Some don't even have directorships though and as I said you claim your videos to monetize them. It's all CMS lingo confusing to the average youtuber :p
