Unless your into pirating, I would just stick with Movie Maker. There aren't a lot of free video editors. Unless you can get someone to send you files through skype

I've had great success with Virtual Dub. With a specific codec, it compressed my 70 GB video into 4 GB at HD quality.

Back in the day I used AVS Video Editor, looking back it was the crappiest thing ever but it does the trick for a free one

Pinnacle is pretty good and free.
