What Format does YouTube Use/Convert To?

I was just wondering what format youtube uses? As in codec, file type, bitrate etc. From what I've heard they use a H.264 codec, 6mbps bitrate with an mp4 format at 30fps. Is this true?

Yep mp4. Download one of your own videos, and then look at the file info, it'll tell you in there.

Correct, its an MP4 format, as it keeps decent quality while keeping file sizes low for easy streaming.

wonder if there is a 1080 setting we can use that once you upload, youtube doesn't need to re-enconde.(1080)
