Don't think people really do meetups now, usually just do them at events.

Those sort of things are the best way to organize something or go to one. I'll personally be going to i52 in the Summer.

What about the MCM expo in May? That's a pretty popular event, plus it's crammed with awesome hobbisit stands and video game trials.
