The You Generation/Base79

Hey guys! I just created an account here and it was mainly because after endless googling, I'm not sure what to do and I figured someone here could help me maybe?

So I just recently started making videos and only have 7 videos, 29 subs, and 591 views. My channel is obviously in the "hey I'm just starting and testing things out because fun reasons and stuff" stage. As part of this "new thing" I'm trying I entered The You Generation's Comedy Competition. I didn't really get a lot of views or anything from it - they didn't even put me in the auditions playlist, so I thought no more about it until I received a message from them saying that they wanted me to join their (TYG) network. It's part of Base79 and the contract says 50/50 revenue split and lasts for 24 months. As anyone on youtube, I think being offered anything is really cool, but after researching this doesn't seem very appealing. I honestly don't even care about 50/50 because I never have made money from youtube and didn't really expect to, but I just don't like the 2 year contract.

I don't have the funds for a lawyer to modify the contract and send it back to them (which is a piece of advice I found on a few other websites), but I don't really want to sign the contract as is.

So basically, I would be interested, but I don't want to sign myself for a 2 year commitment. However, I am a bit confused as to why they would pick someone with such low stats anyway and that makes me feel like I don't really have much weight in any contract negotiations.

I know this is long, but has anyone had this happen to them or have any advice? I appreciate everything in advance!

Hi I have just joined this and only did as your question was bril, as I received same from Base79 and read the contract couple of times as I have never been offered anything like this before, then I did research them. And I I held off and did not sign anything, also I feel signing anything electronically is risky as well. As when you meet with the person you can ask questions or come to an agreement, you cant ask electronical contract questions. or even if there was any "get out clauses" which there does not seem to be. I think they were only combined with you tube generation that way via electronically. 50-50 mmm, you do all the work and they get 50. At first I thought what is this exactly, and thought, ok questions, what will I get out of this if I join? what will they do for me? what about costs and expenses involved and any recoupments, and when they asked for my card number I thought again, mmm, I wont be cleared out of my bank will I?. They are now sending me urgent emails to join them. I am glad I read the comments on this site and now have a better understanding. So alas my research on the company and research on asking if others had joined them and it brought me to this site. I think its best to sign any contract on meeting the person to discuss it with really. Plus there are so many bogus sites on line offering stuff asking for your cards details as well.[DOUBLEPOST=1375382365,1375382026][/DOUBLEPOST]
Thankyou! It all makes sense now

I just joined to, yes you can monetise your vids on you tube, I have done it, but dont expect to make huge amounts though, you have to have thousands of ads on your channel to make any money, I have not made any but its there for the future for when the opportunity comes. Better to have then not have the opportunity, even if it will take ages to get it.

They're by no means a scam or fake or want to steal all of your money. Base79 is a legitimate company but I am still unsure of the rights and opportunities that a smaller YouTuber would get out of it.
I asked them about the poor pay rate and they said this "This is a fixed contract, and the 50/50 revenue split is not negotiable. We understand that you may have seen other MCN's with a 70% revenue but The You Generation Network is a partnership between ourselves and SYCO, so you will be put in front of the eyes of SYCO, which you otherwise would not get with any other MCN.."

When I asked them about changing the amounts of the contract or the length, they pretty much told me the same thing. I've been getting emails that keep urging me to join as well, but I just keep ignoring them. Every once in a while - maybe a month or so - I will get another, but it's not a big deal. I won't be joining them, though.

I know it's terrible, but because I don't even make anything from it on my own it's not like I would really be losing anything? I've heard that people sometimes ask for 6 month contracts? Because 50/50 for 6 months I wouldn't really care, but 2 years is a bit much when I don't even know what I'm doing.

50/50? Probably 50% gross revenue as no network in their right minds would offer 50% net

If you don't want a contract length go with TGN

Welcome to the forums, I see that was your only post.

I'm glad to hear we talked you out of that :D
