I would definitely look into Dxtory. I've been using it for a while now and it is easily worth the money. Although it isn't free (unless you do a bit of illegal magic) and the file sizes are large, it is the best in my opinion.
I use ShadowPlay (free but only compatible with GeForce drivers or something) and OBS. They're both free, have smaller file sizes than, say, Fraps, and I have no complaints so far. Especially with OBS, you can record with a custom overlay and stuff.
