Partnership = Betting Against Yourself?

Networks are there to protect you. Adsense is prone to issues. You could get clicked bombed, and you will never be able to make money on YouTube again. Networks also have support teams that Google/YouTube fail to provide. You may have to split your earnings, but you will be making more money in almost all instances.

Personally I like the idea of building a fanbase un-partnered before signing away 2 years of your life. After you have 100k subs or so and tons of regular views, a partnership couldn't possibly hurt you, and you'll be making money off of merch anyways. :)

No one makes significant money off of merch. If you have 100k subs, then you are probably looking into doing YouTube full time. You should get partnered by 2k subs, 10k daily views at the latest IMO :)

And plus at that level, a network is more likely to pay you more attention.

You're only betting against yourself if you sign based on where you are now instead of where you think you will be at the end of the contract. Another good reason to seek out short term contracts when you're just starting out as opposed to signing for 2-3 years.

But are you going to be able to negotiate with a network for a 1-year contract as if you had double or triple your current views/subscribers?

You should apply for a network while that video of yours is getting lots of views, you`ll have room for negoisiation ;)
