No Intro's On Youtube Videos

It depends on what you mean by intro?

If you mean some weird graphics trying to make it look like the beginning of a movie with some sort of opening credits. - Get rid of that entirely.

If by intro you mean an exciting 10-15 second summary of the video with consistent music and branding. Those work.

Think of a James Bond Movie. You know that normally exciting action sequence before the movie actually starts. That's what an intro should be.

I used to have an intro. It was very short (3-4 seconds) but I was still noticing some dropped views because of it in audience retention so I got rid of it and now I'm getting straight to the point.

After looking at my analytics I noticed I'm loosing 40% of my viewers in the first 10-25

First off, I'm glad to see that you are paying attention to your analytics!

It is actually typical that we lose a lot of viewers in the first 30 seconds. However, your analysis did cause you to contemplate an important subject.

I ditched intros over a year ago. I may have an introduction to the video then splash a 3-second RG logo between the next segment. You could snip a 5-10 second funny bit from your video, then show a 3 second branding spot, then get to your regular presentation.

Think about it. Do subscribers really want to see a 20 second intro every time they watch your videos? Every time?

If you do want one, as many have stated above, 3 seconds and get to the content! =)

I stopped using and intro and I think it's for the better honestly. If your going to have an intro make sure it's less than 5 seconds long. But honestly just introduce yourself very briefly at the beginning of your video and get along with your video right from the get go. Maybe once your a bigger channel put an intro on there because then people aren't as likely to click away if your already established.

Eh, the only videos with an intro is the VGM show, but I consider that more like a 'show', not just some random Let's Play or Vlog or whatever. It's not an intro for the channel or for myself, but of the Video Game Masters show in itself. I mean, some people like the AVGN are memorable because of their intros.

Super short ones are fine, I'd skip anything longer than 4 seconds. I have an outro instead which needs updating to be honest but I don't expect people to stick around for it :')

I like how you start with the meat and potatoes :)

Intros arent necessary. Like said before if they are make sure theyre only a few seconds long because i hate them long intros man i just leave the video.
Some people use the method of using a funny moment of the video and putting it at the start to tease you and make you watch the whole thing which is good.
But intros should be the least you worry about, your main concern should be video quality .
