The only thing I would add is that I would personally prefer if the cartoon were nudged over to the right more. As it is, on my 13" Macbook, his left arm gets cropped off. I would rather his left arm were hidden a little under the main content and see more of his left side. The ads definitely add quite a bit of visual noise to the layout, but if they have to be there, then what are you going to do? Other than that, I think it looks good!
