Monetizing commentaries and gameplay with just a youtube partnership

Hello YTtalk, as you can see im new here and new to the premise of monetizing youtube vids. I have researched this question but have found conflicting answers so I thought I would ask here.

So I have my youtube videos, which are almost all gameplay of the FPS Battlefield 3, many of them have commentary over. None of the videos have been declined for monetization when I applied them for monetization (but didn't link an Adsense account), and theres no trailers of games etc on my channel. I was wondering could I link an Adsense account to my channel and earn money on just a youtube partnership with these videos, or do I need to be partnered with a specific gaming network which have licenses etc? Thank you :)

Hey and welcome to YTTalk! Enjoy your stay! But I must say that any gameplay featured in videos cannot be monetized, unless stated on the back of the game, or in the manual...

Not many networks actually have licenses, Base79 and Atomic Partners have a few.

For BF3 I wouldn`t attempt to monetize it on "fair use"(doesn`t even imply here but people use it anyway), EA are really strict and will strike if they find people doing that.

You can usually get away with not having any licenses until it comes to Rockstar Games, Capcom, EA or Microsoft.

1) monetization review by google is automated. DO NOT TRUST IT, JUST BECAUSE IT APPROVES OR DENIES MEANS NOTHING.
2a) Battlefield content is tricky, EA likes to be a b***h face about it
2b) You can seek approval at PermissionRequests@ea.com --- not sure if they will give permission ahead of time or will only consider requests after an issue comes up, but trying doesn't hurt. I tried to get blanket approval and they said no.
3) You must have commentary to fall under fair use. the closer tied to the gameplay the better (education and related to gameplay)
4) I don't believe there is any difference between monetizing while unlinked vs monetizing while linked.
5) No networks have specific lisenses. they all operate under fair use plus can negotiate on your behalf.

Now all of the above probably sounds REALLY scary right now and you're blood presure and heart rate have probably both trippled, so calm down. The chances of getting into big trouble are on the lower end of things. I would really really recommend against doing single player (due to cutscenes) but multiplayer means you should be fairly safe. Not 100%. Never 100%. Even with a network, never 100%. You definitely need to read up on fair use. I wrote a beguinners guide over in a different sub forum, you can find it yttalk.com/threads/how-anyone-can-monetize-gameplay-without-a-network-a-lesson-in-fair-use.47720/unread --- Read my guide, and the comments that follow. Pretty much everyone has a fair point (except Shane's immediate comment, I disagree with his interpretation as my evidence shows) - they all talk about how nothing is fixed, because in law is different than in practice, and in practice still has lots of gray involved.

^^ So, so, so wrong. Just no. Everyone keeps repeating this myth. Please stop it if you don't know what you're talking about.

They won't "strike everyone" but they are definitely a lot more likely to strike than other companies. Those companies you listed are good examples of riskier ones >.>

I never said they would strike everyone :p , if they`re Content_ID recognizes Visual/Audio content though, It`s set mostly to strike and remove and not the other option which is 3rd party match with earns them all revenue for that video.

OK, fine, you didn't, but I still think that this overstates the risk:

EA are really strict and will strike if they find people doing that.

As long as your video falls under fair use you will be fine. I don`t get how people still believe that Networks have " Licenses" if they did then they wouldn't care about commentary because they would be "Licenses to distributed the content"
