Monetized playbacks way higher than actual views

Hi everyone.. this is my first time here and my first post. Anyway, I'm pretty new to the whole youtuber thing... just been at it a few months. Recently, something strange has been happening in my analytics. My estimated monetized views is sometimes way way higher than my actual views. This is the first time it's happened, and it seems very unusual. Has this happened to anyone else? Is it just a glitch? I was first mad aware of the problem when looking at the views in my adsense account. The views there were way higher than what was showing on youtube. So I checked the estimated monetized views and sure enough.. the numbers started matching up. I'm including a screenshot of the graph so you can better help me. Thanks in advance.

Hi~ thanks for the reply. Yes, the channel I have linked shows zero because I deleted all the videos after I got a copy right strike. I didn't want to get into any more trouble with youtube.

If it's okay, I'd rather not list the channel. I'm uploading video captures on it, and I know it's not really legit since from what I hear vid captures of a show are still not your own. I'm only doing it for now until I start uploading my own content which I create 100%. Just trying to build a subscriber base and the vids I'm uploading are similar to the vids I'll create starting in April. Anyway, I don't use any kind of gimmik like those view exchanges or anything like that. All the views are organic as far as I know.

You're self-monetising copyrighted content? You do know that's illegal, right?

Yes, I do. It's in a show format like a compilation with comments in between. I did the same thing on my Top5YTnews channel but got a strike. I guess youtube doesn't make judgement calls on fair use so some copyright holder made a complaint and it was taken down. I feel like my vids are okay under fair use, but I learned my lesson from my first channel. However, on my new channel, I'm using less of the Copyrighted material and more commentary. When I film my own content, which is seasonal... this activity doesn't really pick up in my latitude until April at the earliest, I won't use any copyrighted material at all, so I won't have to worry about all this fair use stuff. Anyway, back to my original question... have you seen this before? Way more monetized views than actual views?

Fair use doesn't count when you're making money out of it. It's as simple as that I am afraid.

Well there isn't much I can tell you without looking at the channel stats and whatnot, sorry. I don't quite understand why you're reluctant to share the channel if the views go up to 30,000?

Okay, well thanks for trying. My best guess is that the way youtube counts views and the way adsense counts views is different. The adsense way is closer to estimated monetized views. The youtube way to count pages is pretty much anyone's guess. But if someone else has had this happen, would love to hear about it. I've searched everywhere and can't find anything about it.

Not always true.

If you're selling for profit, it's not fair use. While commercial copying for profit work may make it harder to qualify as fair use, it does not make it impossible. For instance, in the case Campbell v. Acuff-Rose Music, Inc., it was ruled that commercial parody can be fair use. Hip-hop group 2 Live Crew successfully made a parody, sold for profit, of the song "Oh, Pretty Woman".
@OP I haven't heard of such a problem with more Monetized than actual views. My guess is the estimate is way off? Who knows.

GKart~ thanks for the response. Actually, I think the "estimated" monetized view is more accurate than the official youtube views and if you care about monetization... it's the only view count that matters.

BTW... awesome vid (the m machine)
