You can just give it a try. Set up all the audio recording devices you have - shoot a video - import all the tracks into your editing software and then compare by muting them individually and stick to what sounds best. (And then add the audacity-treatment.)

Oh and for the syncing:
Just CLAP at the beginning of your shot.

What do you mean by clapping? How does that help?

As a reference point. Just one clap. It gives you one short big spike on your audio and when you're editing you align that with the frame of your video where your hands meet.

Works just like a clap board on a movie shoot. In fact, when we're in a small space without enough room for the clapper we often just have one of the actors clap his hands...

So in editing you'd just match up the audio peak with the hands clapping on screen?

Exactly. Way easier than trying to lipread and match by that. Which also works, but takes a lot more time than having a clear reverence point like a clap.

That's a really good method! I tried this, and it works well The thing is though, I won't need to use this method, since I'm getting a Turtle Beach headset... for gaming
