Maker Studios!

Disclaimer: Please disregard the channel as it is right now. We are releasing mid April. We have a few videos in stock already. THIS IS ALL FOR FUTURE REFERENCE! :)

I'd just like to thank you all for the feedback from my last post. But now I have a few more concerns. Ever since me and my college buddies decided to set a variety channel, I had been doing research on how to get a good channel kick-started as quick as possible - there is a lot of competition out there so I figured it would be best if we could climb the ladder as quickly as possible before we reach our prime.

After reading a few articles about Youtube networks, my eyes started to set on Maker Studios. I did my research on them and saw that their network had a very convenient- yet subtle- ladder system. You'd sign up with SocialBlade/RPM, and then once you grow you may apply for TGS, then ultimately Maker Studios itself. That is one of my concerns; This Maker Studios ladder system a good way to look at it or is this just a figment of my imagination?

Next, Considering we are a variety channel based abroad, Will we still be able to get the production help from the Maker Network? And will they be able to help us in all of our content (Our Music, Gaming, Mini-Movies, Skits, etc.) even if we are based abroad?

Finally, after reading some feedback from people that are actually partnered with Maker Studios, I uncovered a possible negative to maker. In one of the articles, it read:

"RPM/TGS/Maker really pushed my channel up a couple of notches. Before I joined, I was averaging 4000 views per month, then it grew to 350000+ after 2 years. Then I applied for TGS, I made it in and it grew to 400000+. But, what I didn't know is that TGS is not very long term. I was part of it for 6 months then somehow I wasn't getting the help I used to during the first couple of months. It felt as if I was back to where I started with a bigger fanbase. Which sounds good but it becomes extremely hard to maintain that fan-base all by yourself. I contacted TGS and they said they would look into it, I doubt they ever did. So I decided to take matters into my own hands and contacted them to ask if I could host the TGS shows. They denied me. So to all you people expecting a long career with TGS, it might just not happen unless you are a very big channel as it is."

This worries me because I really do hope for a long career with Maker, I would like to be able to pay my bills while I still maintain a family. It sounds cliche but, I'm looking towards my end game already. And If this article is true, I might be having second thoughts. So there is my question, Is TGS truly a short term gimmick?

Thank you to whoever read this post, it is very long but I think this will really help me and my friends moving forward. To summarize this my questions are:

1) Is the Maker Studios ladder system a good way to look at it or is this just a figment of my imagination?
2) Will Maker be able to help us in all of our content (Our Music, Gaming, Mini-Movies, Skits, etc.)?
3)Is TGS truly a short term gimmick?
4) Will we still be able to receive all the production, resources, help, etc. From Maker even if we are based abroad?

Again thank you all! We really do want to be a part of Maker Studios, there is a lot of good feedback but, I want to know it inside out before we put our time and effort into it.

P.S. Please leave a suggestion if you think there is a better network for a Music/Gaming/Film-Making/Funny Sketch variety channel?

THANKS! (for the 3rd time)

1) Maker Studios is alright, although I`d personally say Fullscreen or Vultra or Viso is better ;) also I think you`re over-estimating how fast you`re going to grow ;)

2) They can offer you production assistance if you live in LA (Los Angeles).

3) Don`t know what you`re talking about here it doesn`t go RPM>TGS>Maker it goes RPM> TGS or Maker depending on your channel type :p

4) No

Personally I`d say go with a smaller network for a year or so to help build up your channel such as (Vultra ;) , RPM , Viso , Creator X etc) Then after a year look into the heavy hitter networks that deal with helping with production, such as ( Revision 3 , Base 79 , Maker Studios , BigFrame , The Collective etc)

I don't know if you go from RPM to Maker, but SocialBlade is its own entity, partnering extremely small channels to help them get a "start". If your contract runs out with them you can join another network, but it's not a ladder with them. As for TGS, it's made for people who upload gaming content, like PewDiePie, BlueXephos or Chuggaaconroy. Gamers don't join Maker, that's why TGS was set up for them.

Socialblade is RPM Network ;)

Socialblade is RPM Network ;)

Yes, but it's labeled differently, and it works off a different system. When organizing different partner networks, it separates itself from RPM while not doing so for other group networks, like Maker and Polipop, or Fullscreen and Creator X/ Vlog Union.

Nope they`re the same, I got partnered through Socialblade but I was with RPM, you still get to upload to both channels ;)

1: It's only a 2 step ladder. You will go from RPM to Maker. Maker does have more to offer if you are a large channel. You receive more personalized attention (partner manager will be on constant contact to offer suggestions) and they have their own internal merchandising department should you wish to take advantage of it. You can also draw on other departments, but you have to pay for those services.

2: Yes, but anything beyond the basics has to be paid for. Prices are quite reasonable.

3: TGS is their upper tier section for gaming channels. It is short term. Maker contracts tend to be on the long side. The standard contract is 3 years.

4: Yes. While you cannot take advantage of local services like the sound stages, equipment rentals, set design, makeup, etc, they are very experienced at helping out if you are not located in Los Angeles. They can help you with permits, locations, and crew. I have a few friends that live out of country and are with Maker for this very reason.
