Machinima Partner Concerned

Yeah I've heard the same things about Machinima, and as far as the contract expiring, I don't believe my contract has an end date. I'm not a large channel so I'm hoping that they won't care if I leave. Also yes it very much matters who I am contracted with, regardless of my income. I don't believe it will do me any good to wait until I'm getting a huge amount of money/views from my channel, and then approaching Machinima and going "Oh hey, I know you guys are making a ton of money off my channel, but I can't just go now right?". I'd simply rather get out while the getting is good, so to speak.

Well that settles it for me. A 1.5x increase is enough to convince me. I'm going to get in contact with some of these other networks and see what my options are. I can't thank you enough for the heads up :)

Did some Googlin', found some links that my prove useful (mostly articles from people who are in the same situation). It's not looking too awesome :/ you may need a lawyer.

What an awful business strategy.. how did they not think that people would get upset by this. Thank you for the links, I found a few people to reach out to for their help/opinion about the situation and I hope to hear back from them soon.

Did it state in your contract that it was indefinite? Because if it did, and you signed it, you're gonna have a hell of a time convincing them to let you go. Good luck though, people have gotten out before with a bit of push and shove, hopefully you can do the same!

Machinima supposedly offered to move all life contracts to 3 years at the beginning of the year. You should get in touch with them and see if you have an updated contract. If you do, it's not going to be easy to get out of.

I don't remember receiving an email about this but it could have slipped my mind, I will definitely check. Having a hell of a time leaving seems to be a recurring theme with this company. They have a very interesting employment policy.

should not affected them and each one of the networks i mentioned are gamer friendly. Be best to ask them as i have no idea when it comes to the game copy rights

Hey guys, I'm just posting to ask if anyone has information about pricing on monetizable views for gaming networks. I've been signed up with Machinima for about half a year now and just recently have been hearing a lot about other networks outmatching them on payments for views. Is there an easy way to find out how much a network pays per view? With Machinima I didn't find out until I had the contract in my hands to sign, and obviously I wouldn't want to break any contracts I have with them for another company without knowing if the deal was better.

I know this sounds greedy, and I hope I don't come off that way. I'm mostly just concerned if I am being screwed over or not. One last question I have would be, does anyone have experience with getting out of a Machinima contract? I'd be interested to hear how it went, considering I've heard some horror stories about that as well.

Thank you very much for any help!
Well I`ll start of with saying that just because you had a contract didn`t mean you couldn`t check out other networks, that`s how most do it have all the contracts in front of them and go through them looking for the best one.

Most networks these days go on a rev-share basis or revenue per 1000 views (RPM) which means depending on the network you could be getting 1-5$ in a bad network or 6$+ in a good one.

also some networks also pay for mobile views or all views which will mean a significant raise in revenue but when doing this they usually pay under a fixed CPM which means even if your CPM is 7$ this month you`ll only get e.g. $2 per 1000 views (netting the network the other 5$ per 1000 views). which means you can predict your earnings but in return they might be less than on a rev-share.

There`s no problem with looking over other network`s contracts in order to see what they can offer you (just don`t sign) there`s also no problem in connecting your account to an application form as Machinima cannot see this.

Depends how longs yours is, either wait it out or make a fuss ;)

I`d advice checking out : Yeousch (Gaming Content-Aggregator of Fullscreen) , TGS (Part of Maker Studios) , TGN (Under BBTV) and Vultra Gaming (network of BentPixels) just to see what they can offer you ;)

Thank you for all the info! Turns out Machinima has updated my contract over the past few months to be a 3 year contract, instead of perpetual. I suppose this means I am screwed as far as leaving them goes until that 3 years is up. For now I suppose I will just focus on growing my channel, and have the knowledge that at some point in the future I'll be able to legally switch with no problem.

They got in trouble for giving out those never ending contracts :p

Haha yeah they did, quite the stupid decision on their part. I've emailed Machinima support and we will see what happens. I do have other options such as breaching the contract but I don't think I want to do that.
