Very good advice. When exploring forums for the first time it's very easy to forget that the community sees your intentions from the get go.
Whenever I've seen someone advertising something on a forum I instantly look at how many posts they've made, just instinct I guess.
I also put it down to my own experiences. I think most of us if not all have joined a forum in our early forum days for a selfish reason. You'll quickly feel the sting from that community
I recommend reading a bunch of posts before joining a forum so you know you'll actually stick around.
