How to improve ranking on new video release?

Jungle Explorer

I Love YTtalk
I am looking for ways to improve the ranking of a new video before I release it (beyond standard SEO tactics like, title, description, tags, etc) so that it hits with some steam behind it. So, on a recent video, I listed it as Unlisted for a week before making it public. I promoted the video on social media and got over 500 views, a bunch of likes, and some comments. I am wondering if anyone has an opinion on whether this tactic has any effect on the video's ranking when it goes public?

lol umm this is my idea that I been thinking of.

Set your video to premiering and get 20 of your friends (or 20 people you don't really consider to be your friends, I'm not here to judge), get 20 friends to watch it as the count down for the premiering video is going out and then have them watch the whole 5 - 15 min video. If you get way more than 20 views normally than this might not help, but if you only normally get like <30 views this will help. Youtube will see that 20 people are all interested in watching your video as soon as it came out and watched the whole entire thing and then youtube will push it to more of your subscribers. you said you got 500 on the video that was unlisted soo.... idk if this is useful for you but maybe someone else on the forums.
As your audience grows train the "super fans" to come back at the exact launch time to watch it premiering live. You can reply to comments live and stuff.
Believe it or not Youtube really values the first 12 - 24 hours of your video. So if you can give it a big push as soon as it goes out by using the promising feature you can really improve your chances of youtube pushing it out to all (well more) of your subscribers and then hopefully some people who aren't subscribed to you.

Now if only I had 20 friends lol :laugh2:

The unlisted thing works too.... I guess, but those are 500 people who won't be watching the video when it release so in my mind, it might not count toward youtube pushing it to more people.... if that makes sense

Does using Google Trend and SEO techniques matter if you’re a small channel with just a few videos?

Yes, popularity of video topic, carefully worded title & good thumbnail design.
It can take years to grow a channel, but you are advanced which helps a lot = keep making more videos

I got to be one of those 20 ppl several times, it was extremely irritating to put your life on hold in order to watch someones premier

That does seem very annoying and I would even question the effectiveness of doing so.

my theory is that you do need to push your video. One easy way is to let your friends and family know about the video releases. That’s an organic way to get probably at least around 100 views. However, given my avatar, I’m keeping this hobby separate so I’m trying to find other avenues of self promotion lol

One other possibility not mentioned yet is to have a regular posting schedule. That way your fans know when to expect/look for your video

great idea :up2: but if you are just starting than this may introduce unnecessary pressure, I release videos whenever they get done, so if it's a one month break then that's what it is

That’s very true, the alternative is experimenting with the day/time you post.

For example, every time I posted I tried a different day until I found a day that tended to get more views from my subs. Might be different for every youtuber, but it’s a small tweek that might help
