How to get started, the RIGHT way?

Does anyone have any tips to getting started on youtube? The right way. Ive done youtube many times, but never asked for advice.

First thing first, there is no right way to start youtube. There are just a few things you can do that will help you.

  • Nice channel art - Admit it, if you see a channel where the channel art looks like it's been done quickly or by a 5 year old you most likely won't subscribe.
  • Thumbnails - Thumbnails on videos ALWAYS help because they make the channel look more presentable however they can also be overload and look bad if too much is put onto it.
  • Videos - Keeping the videos around 15 - 20 minutes can help a lot as longer videos mean less people will actually watch the full thing. The shorter version is normally the better.
  • Uploading - Uploading at a regular time and in a schedule will actually highly help. Say you upload 1 video, every 2 days. People that like your videos will get use to this pattern. However uploading 5 videos in 1 day and then not uploading anything for a month is not good for your channel.
  • Editing - Editing your videos are a must as most people will not want to watch a video that is just one block of silence or in minecraft videos just a 10 minutes section of mining as it's rather boring.

Post videos! :D

Actually, there is a little more to it than that. First and foremost, you have to decide why you want to make videos in the first place. Depending on your reasoning, there are actually many different ways you can do YouTube "right". If you are enjoying what you are doing, then really ANY way you want to do it, is fine. However, if you're looking to grab some audience, and want to retain their attention, then that's a different story. Contrary to popular belief, you will not get famous overnight just by uploading some gameplay commentary, and screaming like an idiot. Besides, that's already been done. Which by the way reminds me to tell you that originally is spawned from likeness. So, keep in mind that if you want to be original, you might need to find inspiration in others!

Make sure your content is well made! Light, sound, video quality, etc. Things like that! Go ahead and take actually take time to set up your channel before "launching" it. Nice looking banner, avatar, cheesy one-liners you'll drop/or sign offs, etc, things of that nature! Making videos and uploading them isn't hard, nearly anyone can do that. Though, to create something of great interest, that takes work. Unless you just copy others, and do things like "Challenges", "Tags", etc. Things that require no real effort. Now, as far as your videos go, keep them short, sweet, and to the point. Grab your audiences attention ASAP, and do what you can to keep it.[DOUBLEPOST=1414519002,1414518870][/DOUBLEPOST]Also, a side note for what @Kate (Caitlin) wrote about uploading videos. Don't just upload five videos everyday either, it'll get annoying, and flood peoples Subscription box. :D

Thank you for your time, and your help! Definitely taken into consideration. Working on thumbnails when i get home, other then that I have all the channel art :)

Brand yourself and your channel, this goes with what @Kate (Caitlin) said about thumbnails and channel art, but it can also apply to your social media, how you conduct yourself online, what kind of community you want for your subscribers, how you present yourself, etc. Make sure when people see you online it's recognizable and everything links back to your channel. Good luck!
