How do community channels monetize

You know like for example prank community channels where people send their videos and they reupload them and monetize. How does that work?
 
There's usually some sort of reply from the channel owner to the submitter saying something along the lines of "by sending us this footage you agree to the sharing of copyright ownership and that we [channel name] may monetise and actively promote the video in a way we see fit" USUALLY!

It's the same for the TV shows such as Rude Tube we have in the UK :p
